"In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the State and district wherein the crime shall have been committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the Assistance of Counsel for his defence."
Guantanamo Bay is one of the most controversial topics in America currently. The problem at hand is that a lot of the inmates at Guantanamo Bay have never had a trail, they are simply being detained for under suspicion of terrorism. This is what some believe to be a dramatic violation of the sixth amendment, "the right to a speedy trail". However, what most people don't know is that the word "speedy" is not a definitive time. In fact, the word speedy does not put any specific time table, therefore while it may imply a quick trial, the amendment itself can't really be enforced.
President Barack Obama has done many positive things for this country, but one thing he has failed to do was shut down Guantanamo Bay. When he was running for election, President Obama promised that he would shut down Guantanamo Bay when he was running for the presidency during his campaign election. I believe President Obama views Guantanamo Bay has being unconstitutional, unjust, and unfair. The sixth amendment states that people have the right to a speedy trial. While a lot of the people being held at Guantanamo Bay are not citizens of the United States, people being held in this country against their will should be treated with the same inalienable rights as the rest of us. President Obama has been unable to close Guantanamo Bay because of heavy opposition from both sides of the asile do not what the inmates of Guantanamo Bay inside of the country.
