The Thirteenth Amendment

"Section 1. Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.
Section 2. Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation"

This video is about the Dred Scott Supreme Court case.  This case, as well as the Thirteenth Amendment abolished the lines of slavery.  This was to say the least a monumental case in United States history.  The court decided that it was unconstitutional for one man to be denied the right to move his property from one state to another.  A man was not allowed to move is family to a free-state while keeping his slaves.  The court ruled that because a slave was considered to be property, it was no different than being allowed to move his horse from one state to another.

Above is a picture of the old courthouse in St. Louis.  Being from St. Louis and having lived their my entire life, I can tell you that the courthouse is one of our finest monuments.  We take great pride in it and the role it had in the Dred Scott case as well as leading up the abolishment of slavery.  I myself have been inside of the courthouse many a times and it is a beautiful place.  My Uncle Alvin got married in the courthouse and my Father's office is literally just across the street.
