"Execessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishment inflicted."
The eighth amendment ended the application of torture in America. I take that pack, the eighth amendment was support to end the application of torture in America. This amendment is a lot like the term "We The People". Over the years, the word "We" expanded to more and more people with civil rights and woman’s suffrage. Over the years, the words "cruel and unusual" have expanded to more and more forms of torture. This video shows the different types of torture that was used during the Spanish Inquisition.
Wilkerson v. Utah was a monumental Supreme Court case because it outlawed the used of drawing and quartering, public dissecting, burring alive, and disemboweling as uses of torture in the United States as it applies to the Eighth Amendment. This comic is a perfect interpretation of an early Colonial America as well as America today. It says that while our forms of punishment may not be as bad as some other countries, there still remains a lot of progress to be made.
