"The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several States, and without regard to any census or enumeration."
The Sixteenth Amendment states that, "The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several States, and without regard to any census or enumeration." Everyone that has to pay taxes hates taxes. In reality, taxes is what makes our country work. Because of taxes, we have a police force and fire departments. We are able to fund a military that is the greatest this world has ever sceen. Because of taxes, the United States has a federal government. America is nothing without taxes. The video above is how the radification of the Sixteenth Amendment came to be.
Above is the first man whom ever tried to not pay his taxes. His name is William McKendree Springer and after refusing to pay his income tax. Springer argued before the court that he should not have to a pay the tax because the tax was not apportioned representatively to his state’s population. The court did not agree with Springer and he lost his Supreme Court case of Springer v. United States 1881. The court then ruled that states taxation does not have to be regulated by its own population.
