"No soldier shall, in time of peace be quartered in any house, without the consent of the owner, nor in time of war, but in manner to be prescribed by law."
The Quartering Act of 1765 was one of the major causes of the American Revolutionary War against the British. The Quartering Act started the "snowball effect" that then led to the shutting down of New Yorks legislatior, the boycotting of British goods, and finailly the enactent of the Townshend Act. It is no wonder as to why the founding fathers made sure to include the Third Amendment, "No soldier shall be quarted in any house during a time of peace." The amendment also offered a protection of privacy and property rights from government intrusion.
The results of the events following the Quartering Act of 1765 continued to grow worse and worse, along with the Colonies distaste of the British. On March 5, 1770, the Colonials patients ran out and a group of colonials began to harass and torment a nearby group of British soldiers. The altercation ended with shots fired, and Colonials dead. Little did anyone of the time know it, but for the Colonies, this was the beginning of a new beginning.
